LOCKCHA TEAHOUSE AND STEAMPUNK GADGETRY

15 01 2012

I needed to rest my sore feet after so many days of walking, either on the mountain trails or the city pavement of Hong Kong.  So I took a day off, so to speak.

In Hong Kong Park, I went past the fountain plaza to the Flagstaff Museum of Teaware, then settled in at the LockCha Teahouse.  I drained expensive, 10-year-old Pu-erh by the ewer and ate dim sum snacks and vegetarian curry for a stretch of 6 hours, during which the water kettle kept refilling, and the tea leaves kept coming.

On my tea high, I worked at my steampunk novel project on my netbook, with the help of LockCha’s Wifi.  It was a blissful all-day teahouse sit, full of creativity, warmth, and relaxation.  Bliss.

When I finally left, after uncounted trips to the bathroom, I went to the HK Zoological Gardens to see the animals and the Burmese python.  I found myself strolling down into the antique district and onto Western Market, practically whistling with the feeling of energy and detoxification.  Wondrously, I found myself surrounded by the old world charm I had just been writing about.

I thought I’d post some pictures of the park and of the Victorian Era relics I got to see after spending an afternoon writing about them.

Tea, tea, tea! I have a tea related adventure for you…
but you will have to travel to Lu Shan, Jiang Xi Province. Your quest, should you choose to accept it, is to travel to Lu Shan in search of Lu Shan Yun Wu Cha. I hear there have been Buddhist temples on Lu Shan for centuries. The monks of these temples have a tradition of composing enlightenment poems giving credit to this tea. Tell me about drinking tea with noe of these monks. Ok? Go!

Phase one of the tea shop is finally under way. Still planning, adapting, and sourcing but at least it has finally been put on a path that leads closer to completion.

Consider it in progress. Also, I have made a few interesting tea discoveries over here. I’ll let you know when I learn more. Taiwan is a huge tea producing country and has lots of specialty teas and teaware. You’d be into it.
