ADVENTURES
These posts are about life at its best, capturing the magic and mood of adventure and exploration. They might be multi-day excursions or just half a day of trying new things. I’ll travel, hike, climb, jump, swim, eat, dance and do just about anything else to feel truly alive.
BOOKS AND WRITING
In addition to being an adventurer, I’m also a writer, and aspiring writers must first be good readers. Good books inspire adventure in the hearts of children and adults; they subdue our hunger for exploration, mystery and excitement while we ride the train, sit at the bus stop, wait in the doctor’s office or arrive early for meetings. They nurture us in our chairs by firelight or in bed at the last moments of a day, providing an escape to quests in new worlds when we can’t be out under the stars ourselves. I try to always have a good book with me, for I too have to work a day job to bankroll my travels and weekend exploits. I’ll also use this category to keep you posted on my own writing projects, as I hope someday to make a living as an author, continuing personal training as a hobby.
SIMPLE PLEASURE
I’m a guy of simple tastes. I enjoy moving my body to music, walking through wilderness, drinking tea, chocolate, climbing on rocks and even rapid descents from high places. And you know what they all have in common? They’re cheap. (Yes, I stole this sentence construction from the Joker in “The Dark Knight.”) I like the feeling of warm water on my skin. I like exercising. I like petting dogs. I like the sunshine on my face. I like hugs. All the good things in life are so simple, because the feeling of happiness is generated by the body’s mechanisms. You just have to know how to flip the switches. These posts explore the things that really feel great. No labels, no reservations, no leather interiors, no high appraisal value, no big price tags required. And after all, the more you have, the more you have to take care of, and to lose.
DANCE
When the sun goes down, there’s nothing I like to do more than spin like a top of the floors of the best dance clubs in the world. I’m a breakdancer, and I’ll show you what the music, crowds, lights and atmospheres are in all the clubs I visit. Dancing is great exercise, it’s a chance to steal the spotlight and another brilliant way to get the kind of endorphin rush I call pure joy.
PRODUCT REVIEW
You know if you could make a living blogging about adventure, you’d do it. But that’s NOT what this is about. This is about minimalism. What investments will last you so many years that you’ll say every penny was worth it? I’ve bought gear that has gone the distance, and I’ll show you the stuff of adventure worth 10 times the price you pay for it.
SKILLS
These articles either give the how-to or low-down about an adventurer’s most needed skills. Funny how some tips can make a huge difference in your life. What do you really need to know to live the good life the simple way?
PHILOSOPHY
So what does all this adventuring teach a person about life? Well, wouldn’t you like to know? These stories are about fact-finding and fact-facing. I’m willing to follow the facts of experience wherever they lead, and I can’t wait to find out what they teach me about life, about what really matters.
BRAD FREAKING WILLIAMS. I saw a doppelganger of you on Sunday at my church here in Murfreesboro. It was a guest choir from UTC, although it seemed rather incongruous that you would be in it—but there’s no telling where you’ll end up. Perhaps it is a testament to your adaptability, who knows ^_^* anyway, Nick linked me here so here I am. Feel free to check my blog out (which I’ve had since 2002…)! I will be catching up in my spare time!!!! <3
Long time, no see Kathleen. Thanks for checking out the blog. I’m sure you’ll appreciate my mission, as you’re quite the adventurer yourself. Glad to hear things are going well for you. I hope we can catch up soon. Also, please be on the lookout for adventures in the Murfreesboro area. I will be traveling around as much as I can on my quest for the best of the South.
Heh Brad, I’m an aspiring author myself from Queensland, Australia. I happend to fall upon your youtube blogs about the Chandler Caves whilst researching underground caves. I’ don’t know how many people have commented on your bravery and your will to discover the unknown secrets of this mystical world. But i just wanted to say. WOW, you make me so jealous and excited at the same time. You are living the true dream my friend. Congrats. Keep up the discover who knows what you might find. You should come and check out Australia some time our country would fit right into your agenda. Take care. Live hard. Enjoy travelling… Elizabeth Heart..
Thank you so much! I hope my blog kind of shows people anything can be done in the adventure world, even with work schedules and competing interests for spare time and whatnot. I want to do more caves, and I’m looking into joining a group of cavers in my area. I have never been to Queensland, but I hope hope hope I’ll get to explore Australia someday. I have a cool penfriend in your homeland, and plus any new landscape is worth checking out, let alone one as diverse and full of strange animals as Australia. You’re right. I am living the dream. I’m very grateful for the life I’ve been blessed with. Good things seem to always happen to me. Let me know where your writing is at. Best of luck. I hope your cave research leads you to some amazing adventures. And thanks again for writing.
Brad,
I love what you’re doing here. The blogs, simple pleasures, and even living life minimalistic which is very hard to do once you’ve surrounded yourself with so much “stuff.” I’m currently on a mission to make my life minimalistic and in the process realizing that life isn’t about things or how much you have. It’s good to see someone who feels similar to myself. Just wanted to stop in a say hello.
Keep finding those answers.

Hey Brad,
I just went on a hide on Top of the World today, down in Maryville. I thought you’d like to check out some of my adventure:

Those are 2 separate links, btw. Dunno why 1 shows up and the other doesn’t.
Hey! Can you write a description of where this place is and a little story about it, and I’ll post it! Looks fun!
